Our Wines - 2005 Vintage and Reserve 2004 Releases

Our most recent releases offer a range of fine Rhône style red wines, each uniquely charactered and expressing the “terroir” of our unique vineyard location and our dedication to small lot vinification.

2005 Viognier “Broad Tailed” - This Viognier (Vee-on-yay) is the product of our best harvest yet of the delicate Viognier grape. A medium bodied white wine with crisp floral flavors, and accents of honeysuckle, pear and lemon. It is unfiltered and unfined. Serve chilled with mild soft cheeses, firm pears, Quiche du Provence, or lightly seasoned roasted chicken.

2005 Roussanne “ Rufous” - A full bodied white wine that's also unfiltered and unfined this Roussanne has a big floral body, is loaded with honey flavor, and fruits of pear, citrus, and passionfruit followed by a rich finish. The flavors evolve nicely as the wine warms, so chill lightly and taste the changes in flavor as it warms. Serve with grilled halibut, mildly flavored veal, sauteed mushrooms, grilled chicken or duck.

2004 Syrah 85% Petit Verdot15% “Magnificent”- Where's the beef? OK then get the lamb rack. A huge red wine with spice and smoke and an earthy bite. Breathe this wine well or decant for best flavor, and set a couple aside in the cellar for a couple more years.

2004 Lilian's Syrah- I think, this is the best wine we've made so far. It should be, as it celebrates the birth of Lilian Grace and honors my dear friend Andy......
Harvested on Lilian's birthdate in 2004 the wine (2 barrels worth) came from our Block #1 in the upper part of the vineyard. It is a block of one of several Syrah clones we grow, it was cold soaked and small lot fermented, then aged for 14 months in year old French Oak.
This limited release (540 bottles) wine celebrates Lilian's arrival, and honors my friend Andy, who has always supported and encouraged me( and fed me, and worked like a dog for us, and cleaned up, and brought other great folks to help us, and help me keep perspective...) in creating these wines.

Wishing Lilian a long, healthy and happy life, and thanking the Great Spirit for a friend like you.

2004 Late Harvest Syrah “Sangre de Moñtañas”- OK here it is. Our first Late Harvest/Port Syrah. Deadly rich and complex, it cries out for Cuban cigars, chocolate decadence and your favorite squeeze! Only ½ barrel made, and only like 100 splits left........BUT.......
The #1 bottle is in the winery, up on a shelf, waiting for Allan to come home from Iraq ... safe and sound... and then we'll pull the cork.
pH-around 3.5 ta-not sure Brix at Harvest-really high Alcohol-22%

Look for the 2005 Reds (Syrah, Mourvedre, Grenache & Cuvee) in Sept- Oct. 2006
and THANK YOU for supporting our wines!

Wine Name: 2004 Mourvedre “Black Chinned”
Tasting Notes: A medium bodied red wine with an earthy nose, full burgundy color and a smoke and blackberry flavor. A rich spiciness cuts through the fruit to make this a great food wine. This wine pairs well with so many foods, it's hard to do food pairings. Great with marinara sauces, rosemary roasted chicken, pork tenderloins in a chipolte reduction sauce.... on and on.

Wine Name: 2004 Grenache “ Blue Throat”
T
asting Notes:
A light bodied, full flavored red wine. Light Garnet in color, this wine has a rose and raspberry nose with little hints of strawberry in the front taste. Aged in 85% French oak , a lightly nutty finish rounds out the wine. Pairs super with grilled tuna or halibut, light cheeses, apples and pears.

Wine Name: 2004 Syrah “Magnificent”
Tasting Notes:
Deeply colored purple garnet, this is a full bodied wine with hints of lilac and cassis, a hint of white pepper, a smoky nose and big mouthfeel. Lay a few of these down for a couple of years, they will just get better. Great with strong cheeses. This wine and a rack of lamb is a taste of heaven.... a nice beef steak or buffalo tenderloin is the next best thing. Ok, it's great with chocolate and good cigars too.

Wine Name: 2004 Cuvee de Colibri “ Magnificent”
Tasting Notes:
This year's cuvee is a blend of four wines, 25% Syrah, 25% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre and 25% Counoise. Not as Syrah dominant as last year's cuvee, this wine offers a more subtle range of flavor layers and a larger role for the Mourvedre in the blend. It seemed like this blend was just too easy... 25% of each, but it was the most pleasing of the many I tried in getting ready to bottle. Nice depth and layers of flavor; hints of lilac from the Syrah, the Mourvedre nose, a bit of Grenache finish, and of course that unique Counoise raspberry-rhubarb note. Serves well beside roasted turkey, kabobs of beef, smoked meats, bar-b-que, and robust cheeses.
